Here at Renegade, we are huge fans of Patrick James Eggle Guitars. Patrick is not just one of the best guitar builders in Europe; he has an awesome reputation all over the World. His commitment to producing guitars of the highest standard and continuing to innovate and push the boundaries is greater than ever.
We also love Sunbear pickups, so we asked Stuart to make us a matched pair of his 59 SB-PAF Humbuckers. Authentic killer vintage Les Paul PAF tone complete with vintage spec wiring.
We put these two killer brands together and developed the Macon Vintage 59, which is exclusive to the Renegade Guitar Co!
Full spec in the description and make sure you check out the video below featuring the amazing Chris Buck!
Sunbear say - Where do you start with the PAF? Well, there’s our low-wind 57 set of course but what about if you want some more classic burst bark and punch? Well, these are our answer. Maintaining our typical goal of clarity, sweetness and musicality we add a rough-cast Alnico IV magnet to the bridge pickup for some extra high end grit, alongside a very even low-mid 8k output to round things out. Our favourite AIII bar remains at the neck but the output increases a little compared to the 57 set with a small coil offset for some clear low end richness and a creamy midrange character. The 59 is a truly versatile set that works well in a lot of different guitar styles but sounds absolutely classic in its vintage home.
· BRIDGE AIV +/- 8.3K: A wonderfully balanced mix of power and dynamics characterise this take on a middle-output PAF-style humbucker. It has the clear, faintly strident punch to take on heavy handed rock riffs but a softer touch will coax out all manner of subtle textures.
· NECK AIII +/- 7.4K: Neck pickups like this are just so satisfying; throaty and vocal but with the magnet and wind keeping any muddiness at bay. Solo tones are emotive with lyrical phrases coming across naturally thanks to this pickups fairly even frequency response.

Born in St Albans, England in 1964, the third child of a building engineer and woodwork enthusiast father and an artist mother, Patrick was encouraged by his parents and his school woodwork teacher to build his first guitar as a project. Dissatisfied with the results, he pulled it apart and started work on another, then another.... An obsession was born!
Over the decades Patrick has gained a reputation for designing and building some of the finest guitars in the world, some of which have been owned by icons such as Toni Iommi, Albert Lee and Rory Gallagher to name a very few. His instruments feature regularly in world press and his opinions and expertise are sought out by institutions such as the BBC... He is a popular speaker at guitar exhibitions and music shows.
Ensuring only the best materials are used, Patrick spends much of his time travelling and researching remote locations to buy beautiful and unique tonewoods, increasing his supplier list and learning the stories that accompany the wood that he works with and loves.
Our commitment to producing guitars of the highest standard and continuing to innovate and push the boundaries of this highly competitive field is greater than ever.
